Letter, 1877 Apr. 19, Georgetown, S.C., to G.W. Aimar, [Charleston, S.C.]

Written on letterhead of "Office of T.P. Bailey, M.D., Physician and Druggist," and forwarding a draft, not present, to be collected by Aimar and the amount placed to Bailey's credit, discussing recent gubernatorial election, end of Reconstruction and Republican rule, and expressing hopes for recovery following a tropical storm. Expresses hope that "you have all entirely recovered from the remarkable Equinoctial vernal gale" [possibly the San Felipe Hurricane? (Sept. 1876)] and comments on the election of "our honored [Wade] Hampton" as governor of South Carolina, thereby ending "the corruption of the Radical [Republican] party of the last 8 years." The letter concludes with a reference to Dr. F[rancis] P[eyre] Porcher and his wife, the daughter of the late Joshua Ward, "she cannot be much more than 25 & I think F.P.P. must be 53 or 54."
